Ever heard of a group called Societa Operaia Italo-Svizzera di St. Helena? We toured special plots on the annual cemetery discovery walk and this was one of them.

societa-operaia-plotThey were founded early on in SH and disbanded in 1963. President was Julius Caiocca, Jr. We have most of their records and all were written in Italian. A local Italian will translate for us.

Salmina & Borla building on Spring Street in St. Helena. It was also known as the William Tell Hotel. Tony Quinn’s ancestors (see blog post) were the Salmina partners.
