Genasci migration to California

Carlo Ambrogio Genasci born 4 Feb 1831 Airolo, Ticino, Switzerland. The son of Carlo Ambrogio Genasci born 6 Apr 1796 in Airolo died 26 Nov 1863 married Giuseppa Lombardi born 14 Oct 1797 in Madrano, Switzerland died 1 Jan 1836 in Airolo.

They had 8 children; Giuseppe Antonio, Maria Margherita, Giovanni Massimino, Anna Maria Cattarina, Carlo Ambrogio (1829-1831), Carlo (1831-1909) Ambrogio, Maria Grata Guglna and Cattarina Carolina.

He married twice after Giuseppa’s death to Orsola D’Agostini and Margarita Petereini. Carlo Genasci Jr. came to California via Panama in 1851. He tried his luck in mining gold for awhile and in 1860 he gave up mining and bought a ranch in Nevada City, California, where he operated a dairy.

He married on 30 Jan 1865 in Nevada City Florinda Guscetti born 16 Sep 1843 Degio, Ticino, Switzerland daughter of Carlo Giuseppe and Maria Vanzini Guscetti. Maria was born 1813 in Ambri, Ticino, Switzerland. They had 3 children: Battiste Gio, Luigi and Florinda Guscetti and all came to Nevada City, California.

Maria Vanzini Guscetti died 3 Sep 1879 in Nevada City. Carlo Genasci Jr. died 9 Sep 1909 in Nevada City. Florinda died 16 Jan 1919 Nevada City. They were the parents of 10 children born in Nevada City: Caroline b 1866, Frederick b 1867, Mary b 1868, Josephine b 1869, Annie b 1871, Florence b 1873, Fritz b 1875, Charles b 1876, Henry b 1879 and William b 1881.


The picture of Carlo and Florinda Guscetti Genasci was taken 12 February 1865 in Nevada City, two weeks after their marriage. I also have other pictures.
