My maternal grandfather Achille Adami, whom we called Papa BX was born in Cresciano, Ticino in 1897. When still a boy his family moved to Baveno in northern Italy. My greatgrandfather came to America first and then brought the rest of the family over. Papa BX arrived in the Port of New York on November 12, 1910 aboard the French ship La Lorraine out of Le Harvre. My Italian born grandmother Nella Giracoli, whom we called Mama Nella and he settled in Montpelier, Vermont. He worked in the granite industry and lived until 1973. They had three children who are still alive, my mother Olga, my Aunt Doris and my uncle Robert.
I’m attaching a picture taken of them at their 38th wedding anniversary.
